Kansas City owes the Texas Rollergirls a debt of gratitude for being the trailblazing team that laced up some skates and set off the neo-roller-derby frenzy back in 2003. The resurrection of the nearly forgotten sport won followers from coast to coast, and the Kansas City Roller Warriors joined the fold in 2004. But now, the students have surpassed the masters — and they're looking for a different kind of payback. The Roller Warriors hold the national championship and bragging rights over the fourth-ranked Texas team. That said, the Cowtown squad has been gored by the Southern belles in their past three meetings. So tonight, when the trailblazers and the title holders meet for Mothership Mayhem, the hometown ladies will be out for blood. For derby fans, this could be one for the books. Tickets cost just $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Doors open at Winnwood Skate Center (4426 Northeast Winn Road) at 6 p.m., and the starting gun fires at 7 p.m. Call 913-636-7894 for more information.
