Five years after we invaded Iraq, you can still spot many cars around town with "Support Our Troops" ribbons. If you really want to support the troops, give one a ride to the RecruitMilitary Career Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Kauffman Stadium.Depending on which shameful statistic you want to go by, young vets returning from the Middle East have an unemployment rate of 15 percent (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics) or 23 percent (U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs). Either way, veteran unemployment is rising, and the lower rate is three times higher than unemployment among nonveterans.Today's vet career fair is produced in cooperation with the National Hire Veterans Committee, the American Legion and the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network. Event organizers expect around 300 veterans to attend and help recently returning troops and their families find work.
